Another birthday for me, yippee! (seriously, yippee!) My birthday was on a Sunday this year, and Haley had not been feeling well - so we decided to stay in G'ville. Taylor & Papa came to see us, and before they came, Taylor made absolutely sure that I would have a cake. I love that girl, and not just because she knows I love cake. She and Papa stopped to pick up some things before they came over, I'm not sure how much fighting/whining/convincing that she had to do to get it, but not only did she make sure I had a cake, she made sure it said HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNT ROSE - she got the decorating kit and did all that too! Well, it was very much appreciated, so much so, that we sort of cut into it before taking a picture. It wasn't nearly as good as Mama's b-day cakes, but one that I'll always remember because Taylor-girl looked out for me on that one!
So, then there's Christmas - it was a great, Haley was much more "in to it" than she was last year, but I think all the presents at one time might have been a little overwhelming to her. Or either we rushed her through it. She wanted to play with whatever she came to - and we were trying to get her to look at everything. It was all good though, I look forward to next Christmas even more, I bet they'll just get better and better. After doing our thing Christmas morning, we packed up and went to MeMe's & Papa's house. I had extra time off from work, so that was really nice because we got to stay longer than usual. We did our regular thing there, and even if it's not Christmas BC is a great place to be because of my people, good food and good times! Next on the agenda - 2010. Steve & I didn't go anywhere to celebrate, as a matter of fact, I was asleep before midnight, and if he stayed up to bring in the new year, I either didn't ask or can't remember. Anyway..so far so good on that. We've had one small trauma to report - Haley lost one of her top front teeth. Yep. And they tell me she won't get another one until she's 5 or 6. I don't usually start the story like this but here's how it goes....MEME WAS WATCHING HER...(lol) and they were playing with a balloon, Haley tries to catch it and she goes forward too far and the glider ottoman comes out, she hit her mouth on the wooden part - ouch! I got a call from Mama, flew home from work - not knowing what to expect, but I knew it wasn't good from Mama's tone and also because Haley is crying/screaming in the background and it wasn't her typical cry. Funny how Mom's pick up on the different tones of crying. This one was a bad one. So, I get home and nearly cry myself - there is blood everywhere - she had cut her lip in a few places, but the worst part was that tooth protruding forward and hanging by what looked like a thread. I called GPS, and they referred me to the pediatric orthodontist right beside them. We go there, and get the bad news....her tooth can't be saved because it was too far gone and could possibly injure her permanent tooth. I tried to be brave for Haley's sake, but I could barely take it - as a matter of fact I left the room, only for a few minutes, but I knew I would cry and I didn't want Haley to see that. I even had to plug my ears up outside of the room. I'm writing this like it was my idea to leave the room, but I actually had a little suggestion from the nurse - sort of like I wasn't helping Haley w/ telling her "it's going to be okay - then a few seconds later - OMG! she's not going to have a tooth there until she's 5 ?!!? So, I think it was a smart move. Poor Bertha - she wanted to have a re-do on that day, who can blame her. It first started out with her going home, and me taking Haley to school, then it turned into her saying I'll just take her to school later, then the final decision was she was going to hang out with her all day - that didn't last long, I think the phone call was around 10:30 or so. Although, I have to say, if my baby is going to have an accident like that - I'm glad it was with my Mama rather than someone else, or at school - because I would have a ton of questions and concerns about how something like this could happen. Well, since I know my Mama loves that girl as much as I know she loves me - I realize it was a total accident, and had very little questions, and zero concerns that she wasn't being watched. She even said later that she would trade every single tooth in her mouth for Haley's one tooth back. That's LOVE! I don't even know if I'D do that! Anyway...it's ok now, she's all healed and it doesn't seem to hinder her at all.
We had our first snow this year - it was on a Friday night, so we were able to enjoy it over the weekend. Ok, so enjoy might be stretching it a little on this one - when I woke up around 3:30am, it looked all fluffy and soft, and I was excited to get out there when we all woke up later. Well, when we woke up later, it had turned to rain/sleet/snow - so we try to play a little in that, but it was really nasty. Then...after that finished - it turned to a sheet of ice! That wasn't much fun. We tried again to get out there and do what you do in the snow, that didn't turn out too well either. I think the highlight for Haley were the icicles, she LOVED those. She'd send me out every so often to grab her one, she would sit on her little couch w/ her gloves on and eat them. She didn't appreciate it once they started melting. That's what has been going on with us from Dec 2009 to Feb 2010 !
